The River Nile in Jinja boasts rapids ranging from Grade 1 (calm) to Grade 6 (extremely dangerous). We offer trips covering grades 1 through 5. Grade 6 rapids are not feasible for rafting due to the extreme danger and unpredictability associated with them.
The minimum age depends on the grade of rapids. The minimum age for grade 3 rapids is 14 years and 16 years for grade 5 rapids. For the family float (grade 2 maximum) the minimum age 6 years.

On a rafting trip, you can expect beautiful scenery along the Nile river, exciting rapids, and the opportunity to spot wildlife such as vervet monkeys and monitor lizards. The Nile River is also home to a variety of birdlife, including fish eagles, kingfishers, and cormorants.
Your safety is our priority at Jinja Rafting. We provide all necessary safety equipment, with our CPR- and first-aid-trained guides leading the way. Pre-trip safety briefings and trainings ensure you're prepared. Each trip includes dedicated safety kayakers and a safety boat to proactively manage risks and respond swiftly to emergencies.
Trips can be booked the day before at the latest. However, booking your rafting trip days in advance is highly recommended to guarantee your spot, choose the ideal trip, and simplify logistics.
Tipping is at your discretion, but our awesome river crew definitely appreciates it!
The risk of contracting bilharzia while rafting is very low. Bilharzia thrives in still, stagnant water like Lake Victoria. In contrast, we raft on fast-moving rapids and ever-changing river sections, which are largely parasite-free. While bilharzia is a treatable condition requiring a single dose of praziquantel (available over-the-counter in Jinja pharmacies), it's important to be aware of the potential risk. However, given the river conditions, contracting bilharzia while rafting is unlikely.
